Washington Gears Up for Stronger Actions to Push Sudan’s War Toward an End

The U.S. administration is reportedly preparing stronger measures to force an end to Sudan’s war before the year concludes. The shift followed President Donald Trump’s comments that the U.S. is acting to stop the conflict at the request of Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Diplomatic sources say Washington is preparing to move beyond statements and into concrete action.

An African Union official and a Western diplomat told Sudan Tribune that the U.S. plan is structured around three core tracks: military pressure, humanitarian intervention, and political engagement. These efforts are being coordinated intensively as the situation on the ground worsens. The U.S. is expected to take steps that significantly increase the cost of continuing the conflict.

Al Arabiya reported that Washington’s plan includes measures similar to those applied during the Syrian crisis, such as immediate sanctions, expanded restrictions, and asset freezes targeting key actors involved in sustaining the war. At the same time, U.S. teams are compiling a wide-ranging accountability dossier, with a major focus on violations and atrocities in Darfur.

The diplomat rejected reports that the Sudanese army had been given a new ceasefire offer. He said the army chief only received feedback from a Cairo coordination group and suggested that the general now has a clearer understanding of the diplomatic landscape, hinting at possible shifts in upcoming negotiations.
