Sudan’s Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning announced that funding provided by the African Development Bank (AfDB) for current projects in the country amounts to approximately USD 420 million. The ministry confirmed that the financing is directed toward programs already under implementation.
Undersecretary for Planning Mohamed Bashar said discussions are underway with the Bank on additional projects to be financed through a new grant exceeding USD 200 million. He noted that the proposed funding aligns with priorities of the current phase, particularly in sectors critical to stability and recovery.
Bashar stressed that the government is focusing on essential services, food security, infrastructure, capacity-building for national personnel, and productive projects that support peace and long-term development. He added that the funding falls under the Bank’s Sixteenth Grant Program, describing the AfDB as a major development partner.
AfDB Country Director for Sudan David Mutoko confirmed that Sudan remains a priority within the Bank’s financing framework. Regional Director for East Africa Alexander Daniel also reaffirmed the Bank’s commitment after a field visit that assessed the direct impact of the war and identified urgent needs on the ground.
