Sudan Envoy Demands Global Action Against UAE Over Alleged RSF Support

Sudan’s Ambassador to South Africa, Osman Abu Fatima Adam, has urged the international community to impose sanctions and an immediate arms embargo on the United Arab Emirates (UAE), accusing it of supporting the RSF militia that has committed atrocities across Sudan. Addressing journalists at the National Press Club in Pretoria, he said the conflict was orchestrated by a “terrorist militia” intent on destabilising Sudan through ethnic violence and deliberate breaches of peace accords.

He revealed evidence of systematic attacks on civilians in El Fasher, including the alleged use of toxic gases and white phosphorus during a two-year siege that left the city in ruins. The Ambassador said UAE-backed arms shipments had facilitated these assaults and criticised the world’s inaction despite clear proof of genocide and other war crimes. He added that the militia’s propaganda, funded by foreign actors, distorted the truth and created a false narrative that misled global opinion.

Ambassador Abu Fatima denounced the UAE for using its financial influence to evade accountability and push for a shadow government in Sudan’s Nyala region, calling it a direct threat to Sudan’s sovereignty. He called on the United Nations and African Union to investigate and classify both the RSF and its backers as terrorist organisations responsible for crimes against humanity.

In his closing remarks, the Ambassador praised South Africa for its solidarity and appealed for continued cooperation in humanitarian aid, institutional rebuilding, and justice efforts. He also urged South African authorities to ease visa processes for Sudanese nationals affected by the war, describing this as a humanitarian gesture at a defining moment in Sudan’s history.
