Strong Showing for Sudan’s Abdel Qader, Finishes Fourth in Riyadh Karate Event

Sudanese karateka Ahmed Abdel Qader earned a commendable fourth-place finish at the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games being held in Riyadh under the theme “One Nation.”

Competing at under 75 kg, Abdel Qader began with a tactical match against Kuwait but fell short due to the Kuwaiti player’s greater endurance. He won his next bout when the Kenyan competitor withdrew because of injury. His final match pitted him against an internationally ranked Turkish athlete, resulting in a narrow loss that placed him fourth overall.

Abdel Qader voiced pride in his performance and highlighted the experience gained from facing elite athletes. He expressed determination to return stronger and compete for medals in future championships.

The Sudanese Olympic Committee leadership—including Secretary General Professor Mahmoud Al-Sir, technical head Mohamed Saleh Wadaa, and delegation leader Al-Moez Abbas—attended the competition. In the women’s event, Fatima Youssef exited after losing her under-68 kg match to a Kenyan athlete.

Wushu competitor Habib Mohamed has also joined the team in Riyadh with coach Al-Taj Nouri.
