Port Sudan Meeting Sets Roadmap for Reviewing Agricultural Legislation

A high-level meeting was held in Port Sudan by the Legal Administration to launch the work of a committee assigned to review agricultural and irrigation law projects. The committee, chaired by Dr. Sulafa Al-Bayli, included senior officials and technical representatives from various departments within the Ministry of Agriculture and partner institutions.

Dr. Al-Bayli delivered a detailed presentation on the significance of agricultural legislation in ensuring food security and organizing farming activities. She noted that the committee was formed through a formal ministerial decision and will be responsible for examining, updating, and aligning legal drafts with current realities.

Participants discussed the need for laws that regulate the use of natural resources such as land and water, protect the environment from harm, and promote sustainable agricultural practices. The updated framework is also expected to support farmers, improve productivity, and enhance competitiveness in local and regional markets.

The committee agreed to begin its work by reviewing five priority laws, with the remaining legislation to be addressed in later phases. This gradual approach is intended to ensure accuracy, consistency, and long-term effectiveness.
