Sudanese authorities have moved to curb harmful gold processing practices in Northern State, seizing over 150 thiourea mixers and large amounts of toxic chemicals including thiourea, cyanide, and activated carbon.
According to officials, the campaign—organized by the Sudanese Mineral Resources Company with the Mineral Economy Security Department and Mining Security Police—aims to protect the environment and public health from the dangers of unregulated gold extraction.
The operation dismantled illegal ponds in the Al-Khannaq market in Abri, Halfa locality, where unsafe methods were being used. Abdelrahman Mahjoub Al-Nazif, head of the company’s state office, stressed that complaints had been lodged with Dongola police and that the case had been referred to the prosecutor’s office.
He reaffirmed that the campaign reflects a coordinated effort to safeguard communities and promote responsible mining.
