Sudan’s Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Dr. Jibril Ibrahim, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting the Customs Forces in their ongoing fight against illegal trafficking. He emphasized the importance of equipping them with the tools and backing required to secure the country’s borders and protect the economy.
The minister made these remarks while inspecting a large cache of smuggled items seized in the Red Sea State. The operation, led by the Anti-Smuggling Administration in coordination with the General Intelligence Service, targeted a criminal network operating at sea.
Authorities reported that the network was transporting 400 kilograms of crystal meth and 2 kilograms of heroin, along with firearms, ammunition, and a Thuraya satellite phone. The interception dealt a blow to organized crime and highlighted the growing challenges of maritime smuggling.
At the Anti-Smuggling headquarters in Port Sudan’s Transit area, Dr. Ibrahim commended the officers involved for their dedication. He warned that the spread of drugs and weapons threatens social stability and drains national resources, stressing that only sustained cooperation and strict enforcement can curb the problem.
