Fan backlash forces Amad into social media purge after Garnacho post

It was a night of mixed emotions for Amad Diallo. Deployed first in the attack and later as a right wing-back in Ruben Amorim’s tactical reshuffle, the 23-year-old helped United secure an important victory.

But the spotlight quickly shifted off the pitch. Following the final whistle, Amad warmly greeted Chelsea’s Alejandro Garnacho, who had been an unused substitute. The pair, who share the same agency, exchanged shirts and posed together in a photo Amad proudly posted online.

That post, however, did not sit well with many United fans. Garnacho, still a polarising figure after his acrimonious exit, was loudly booed during the game. Within hours, Amad deleted the picture—along with every single post on his Instagram and all but one on X.

For supporters, it was a show of loyalty misplaced. For Amad, it was a reminder of how quickly goodwill can evaporate in the age of social media.
