Crackdown on Gold Smuggling in Atbara as 50kg Seized

Efforts to protect Sudan’s economy received a boost after the General Intelligence Service in Atbara seized more than 50 kilograms of smuggled gold.

Governor of River Nile State Mohamed Al-Badawi Abdel-Majid warned that gold smuggling continues to undermine the country’s wealth. He urged lawmakers to pass stricter legislation and impose tougher penalties on smugglers to safeguard national resources.

Inspecting the seized gold alongside senior security officials, the Governor praised the dedication of the Intelligence Service. He also highlighted the importance of rewarding frontline officers, announcing incentives for all who participated in the operation.

This marks the second major gold seizure in Atbara within recent months, underscoring the scale of the challenge authorities are facing.
