More than 500 families were evacuated from Wad Ramli, north of Khartoum, on Tuesday as floods swept through the area, Sudan’s Civil Defense confirmed. Several homes were inundated, raising concerns of wider impact.
Khartoum’s acting executive director, Kamal Awad al-Karim, inspected vulnerable sites along both the White and Blue Nile—including Rumaila, al-Azouzab, Daajib, and Tuti—as part of an emergency response review.
In remarks carried by the Sudanese News Agency, Awad al-Karim said the situation remains stable “unless new developments arise,” highlighting the readiness of local flood emergency systems. He called on residents to stay vigilant and report any sudden rise in Nile water levels.
Meanwhile, Al Jazeera reported that youth volunteers have begun constructing sand barriers to protect houses, though limited resources are constraining these community-led efforts.
