Croatia Punch Ticket to 2026 World Cup; Dutch on Brink as Germany’s Fate Remains Uncertain

Croatia clinched World Cup qualification with a 3–1 victory over the resurgent Faroe Islands, though the performance left more questions than confidence. The Netherlands appear set to join them, but Germany’s path remains unresolved after an uninspired 2–0 win over Luxembourg.

The Faroes shocked Croatia early when Geza David Turi advanced unchallenged from midfield and fired a deflected shot past Dominik Livakovic. Croatia, needing only a draw to qualify, responded through Josko Gvardiol before Petar Musa and Nikola Vlasic completed the comeback in Rijeka. The win places Croatia out of reach at the top of Group L with one match to spare.

“For Croatia, for the fans!” Gvardiol wrote as he celebrated qualification online.

The Faroes, enjoying a rare three-match winning run, once again showed their growing confidence, unsettling Croatia before experience and the composure of 40-year-old Luka Modric steadied the hosts.

Elsewhere, Germany’s performance did little to ease pressure. Nick Woltemade’s two goals earned them the win in Luxembourg, but their qualification still hinges on the decisive clash with Slovakia on Monday.
