The Rwanda Premier League will feature three Sudanese football giants — Al-Hilal, Al-Merrikh, and Ahli Wad Madani — in its upcoming 2025–2026 season, following official approval from the Rwandan Football Federation (FERWAFA).
League president Yusuf Mudahir announced the inclusion during a press conference in Kigali, emphasizing that the clubs will play under the same competitive framework as Rwandan teams. The season kicks off in November 2025, following the league’s traditional schedule.
Mudahir stated that any Sudanese club finishing first overall will be honored with the championship trophy, while the best-performing Rwandan team will be recognized as national champion.
He also highlighted that the move reflects ongoing football cooperation between Sudan and Rwanda. Sudanese players will be considered locals for registration purposes, avoiding foreign-player quota restrictions.
Dr. Mutasim Jaafar, president of the Sudanese Football Association, will visit Kigali to coordinate logistics for the Sudanese sides, who will also prepare for the Sudanese Premier League scheduled to resume in January 2026.
