Sudan and South Sudan Continue Oil Cooperation Despite Challenges

Sudan’s Energy Minister, Moatasem Ibrahim Ahmed, said on Sunday that cooperation with South Sudan in the oil and energy sectors will continue, even in the face of challenges.

Speaking in Port Sudan with South Sudanese Foreign Minister Monday Semaia Kumba, Ahmed emphasized the importance of keeping pipelines, pumping stations, and treatment plants operational, while maintaining the electrical connection between the two countries. He also promised support for training personnel and sharing technical expertise.

The ministers discussed ways to coordinate companies in both countries and attract international investment. Sudan’s Ambassador to Juba, Issam Karrar, called the visit historic — the first by a South Sudanese Foreign Minister since the outbreak of the war — and praised the strong cooperation between the two nations.
