It was a night of emotion and history in Paris as Ousmane Dembele and Aitana Bonmati claimed football’s highest individual honors at the Ballon d’Or ceremony.
Dembele, central to Paris Saint-Germain’s treble-winning campaign and their maiden Champions League crown, fought back tears as he lifted the men’s award in front of jubilant fans chanting his name. Had it not been for injury, the French forward would have been lining up for PSG in Marseille instead of standing on football’s grandest stage.
In the women’s category, Barcelona and Spain star Aitana Bonmati secured her place in history, becoming the first woman to win three consecutive Ballon d’Or titles. Only legends Lionel Messi and Michel Platini have ever matched that streak on the men’s side.

For Barcelona’s young sensation Lamine Yamal, there was also reason to celebrate as he finished runner-up to Dembele and was recognized as the Best Young Player of the year.
