Sudan Relocates Militants, Plans Reconstruction of War-Damaged Khartoum

The Sudanese government has relocated more than 3,200 militants from Khartoum as part of a campaign to restore security and begin reconstruction of the capital.

Sovereignty Council member Ibrahim Jaber, who chairs the Khartoum Reconstruction Committee, said the evacuation of armed groups was necessary to protect residents and rebuild services destroyed during the conflict. He revealed that state-owned high-rise buildings, including the Minerals Towers, would be used in the costly reconstruction of government institutions.

Authorities also announced that most ministries will be moved out of central Khartoum, with exceptions for the Interior and Health Ministries. Meanwhile, demining teams have cleared thousands of mines and unexploded devices, paving the way for displaced residents to return.

Defense Minister Lt. Gen. Hassan Dawood Kabroon confirmed that 3,226 fighters had been relocated, stressing that the Sudanese army itself was among the first to vacate positions in the capital. He also highlighted ongoing efforts to regulate the presence of the 38,000 foreigners and refugees currently in Sudan.
